Extensions: Continue a project with an agency

When you would like to continue a project with an agency beyond a project's original timeframe, you have two options depending on the reason and scope of work required.

Extend project end date

If you need to extend a project's end date due to delays or pauses, you can do so by requesting an end date change in Project Actions. Please note that this will notify StudioSpace, and may affect when invoices are requested and paid out, as well as when final handover occurs.

Extend project for additional work/phases

If you would like to work with an agency for an additional phase of work, especially when this involves additional fees, you can create an Extension project.

Extension projects are functionally identical to a regular project with a few key process differences:

  • They allow you to directly match with an agency you have worked with before, and briefing and matching is skipped
  • Extension projects must be linked to the original project it is an extension of
  • Except a new Statement of Work, compliance documents from the original project are carried over for the extension

Creating an extension project

To create an extension project, you can either extend a project currently in Delivery status, or create a new project from My Projects.

You only have access to straight to match projects and extension projects if you are already completed a project with StudioSpace before.

You will then be prompted to provide a minimum amount of information to the project. This includes the name of the extension project, its currency, budget and start and end dates.

Please note that an extension project cannot start before the end of the original project.

When should I create a brand new project instead?

There are a few reasons that an extension project may not be appropriate, even if you are working with the same agency:

  • The scope of work is distinct from the original project (e.g. app development following a research phase)
  • Data sensitivity (e.g. personally identifiable information, business-restricted) is elevated from the original project, requiring the agency to complete a new engagement form

For this, we recommend either creating a new standard project, or a Straight to Match project. You can learn more about the latter here.
